Can PROmanage® work without INspektor® devices?
Yes. PROmanage® NT V2 can monitor Ethernet-based networks (including PROFINET) using managed switches alone via SNMP. However, for PROFIBUS networks, you'll need PROFIBUS-INspektor® NT devices to provide the protocol-level diagnostic data. The INspektor® analyzes PROFIBUS telegram traffic while PROmanage® centralizes and stores that data.
How many networks can PROmanage® monitor?
It depends on your port license. Each connected switch port or INspektor® device counts as one port. Available licenses: 16, 24, 40, 80, 160, 320, 640, 800, 1760 ports. For example, if you have three PROFIBUS-INspektor® NT devices and two 24-port managed switches, you'd need at least 51 ports (3 INspektors® + 48 switch ports).
What's the difference between PROmanage® and continuous INspektor® monitoring?
PROFIBUS-INspektor® NT monitors a single PROFIBUS segment and provides detailed analysis via its built-in web interface. PROmanage® NT V2 is the central hub that collects data from multiple INspektors® across your facility, stores long-term trends (up to 1 year), and sends automated alerts. Think of INspektor® as your field sensor and PROmanage® as mission control.
Is TOPOCAD required for PROFIBUS installations?
No. TOPOCAD is a convenience tool for creating professional topology diagrams and planning cable routes. Many installers use it to generate wiring documentation for installation teams or create as-built drawings for facility records. If you're already using CAD software or prefer hand-drawn diagrams, TOPOCAD isn't necessary—but it does speed up the process significantly.
