PROFINET Troubleshooting & Diagnostic Tools

Free US support  •  Ships from Atlanta

Tools for PROFINET troubleshooting and network analysis, built to find faults fast. Pinpoint bad cabling, high network load, jitter, duplicate device names, and failing nodes on a live PROFINET network, then certify the repair with a full acceptance report. The measuring tools are passive and feedback-free, so you can watch the network while the line keeps running.

Use them to:

  • Track down intermittent faults on a live PROFINET network
  • Certify cabling and commission new installations
  • Verify a repair before you hand the line back to production

Where PROFINET Faults Start

Most PROFINET problems trace back to one of four areas. Knowing which one you are in tells you which tool to reach for first.

Physical layer

Bad terminations, damaged cable, connector faults, and bend-radius violations. The most common PROFINET fault.

EMC and power

Noise coupling near drives and VFDs, poor shielding and bonding, and unstable 24 V.

Topology and design

Line and ring issues, exceeded hop counts, and no test access built into the network.

Network behavior

High load, jitter, duplicate device names, and alarm floods that hint at a failing node.

How to Find a PROFINET Fault

  1. Test the cabling with PROlinetest. A direct cable and wiring test, no tap required. Bad cable is the most common PROFINET fault, so rule out the physical layer first.
  2. Map the network with PROscan® Active. Discover every device, visualize the live topology, and spot duplicate device names, unexpected nodes, and missing devices.
  3. Tap in and analyze with the PROFINET-INspektor® NT. Install an iPNMA or PNMA II measuring point to give the INspektor a passive, feedback-free window into live traffic, then measure network load, packet gaps, jitter, and per-device quality.
  4. Certify the repair. Generate a full acceptance report so the fix is documented before the line goes back into service.
