InduSol America
+ Zabbix
Zabbix watches your servers, switches, and applications. InduSol watches the industrial networks that run your machines. With the INspektor® integration, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and PROFIBUS health flows straight into Zabbix, so plant network problems show up in the same dashboards, triggers, and escalations your team already uses.
Integration Available NowWhat Is Zabbix?
Zabbix is an enterprise-class, open-source monitoring and observability platform. Developed by Zabbix LLC since 2005, it is used by organizations in more than 160 countries to track the performance and availability of networks, servers, cloud resources, and applications. The software is free with no license fees, and Zabbix offers commercial support, training, and a hosted Zabbix Cloud option for teams that want them.
Zabbix combines automated discovery, real-time data collection, flexible triggers, and customizable dashboards in one system, with escalations and notifications that route problems to the right people. Because the code is open, organizations can audit it, validate its security themselves, and extend it with templates for new kinds of devices. That is exactly how the InduSol integration plugs in.
INspektor® NT Integration for Zabbix
The integration brings per-device health measurements from INspektor® NT analyzers into Zabbix, where they work like any other Zabbix data: graphed, alerted on, and escalated alongside the rest of your infrastructure. It is free, open source, and made of two parts: a Zabbix template and a small collector.
-
1
INspektor® NT Measures
The panel-mounted analyzer listens passively and measures health for every device on the line.
-
2
Collector Forwards
A small Windows program reads each INspektor® and sends the values to Zabbix. If Zabbix is down, it buffers and resends.
-
3
Zabbix Acts
The InduSol template turns those values into items, triggers, graphs, and dashboards.
What Shows Up in Zabbix
- Device breakdowns
- Error packets
- Repeat packets
- Frame gaps
- Jitter
- Network load
Available measurements depend on the protocol.
What You Need
- An INspektor® NT on each network you want to monitor
- A Windows PC that stays on
- Zabbix 7.0 LTS server or proxy
The Zabbix template, collector, and setup steps are on GitHub.
Benefits of Using InduSol America and Zabbix Together
Zabbix already sees the IT side of the plant: servers, switches, firewalls, and anything that answers a poll. What it cannot see is what happens on the PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, or PROFIBUS line itself. A connector works loose, a cable degrades, a device starts repeating packets, and the switch port still looks fine. InduSol adds that missing layer, so OT network health sits next to IT health in one place.
One Screen for IT and OT
Industrial network health lands in the Zabbix instance you already run, as standard items, triggers, graphs, and dashboards. No second console to watch, no separate alert stream to maintain, and your existing escalation rules apply on day one.
Catch Faults Before They Stop Production
Repeat packets, frame gaps, and rising jitter appear days or weeks before a node drops. Permanently installed INspektor® NT analyzers measure them continuously, and Zabbix triggers raise a problem while there is still time to plan a repair.
A Named Device Behind Every Alert
The INspektor® measures health per device: breakdowns, frame gaps, jitter, network load, and error and repeat packets. When a Zabbix problem opens, it points to the specific device on the line instead of a generic "communication fault."
Read-Only, Outbound-Only by Design
The collector only reads from the INspektor® and only sends to Zabbix. Nothing connects into the OT network from outside, and the INspektor® itself listens passively, never sitting in the path of control traffic. PLC programs and cycle times stay untouched.
No Gaps in the Record
If Zabbix goes offline for maintenance or a network hiccup, the collector buffers every value locally with its original timestamp and delivers the backlog as soon as the connection returns. Your trend history stays complete.
Built for Mixed Networks
Most plants run PROFIBUS segments installed decades ago alongside newer PROFINET and EtherNet/IP lines. One template covers all three protocols, so every network reports into Zabbix the same way.
Two Layers, One Monitoring System
Zabbix and InduSol cover different layers of the plant and complement each other without overlap. Zabbix monitors IT infrastructure and handles alerting, visualization, and escalation. InduSol measures the health of the industrial networks underneath, and the integration feeds those measurements into Zabbix.
Zabbix
Open-source monitoring for servers, network equipment, cloud, and applications. Triggers, dashboards, escalations, and notifications across every site and team.
InduSol America Diagnostic Tools
Permanent monitoring of industrial networks, including PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and PROFIBUS. Continuous, per-device measurement of breakdowns, frame gaps, jitter, network load, and error and repeat packets.
The Combined Result
IT and OT teams work from the same problem list. When a line slows down, they can see in one place whether the cause is a server, a switch, or a degrading fieldbus device, which means faster root-cause analysis and less unplanned downtime.
Industries and Applications
The combination is built for facilities that already rely on Zabbix and where network reliability directly affects throughput, quality, and compliance.
Industries
- Automotive and tier-one suppliers
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution
- Retail logistics and material handling
- Water, wastewater, and municipal infrastructure
- Food, beverage, and packaging
Applications
- Unified IT and OT monitoring in a single Zabbix instance
- Giving IT and NOC teams visibility into plant floor networks
- Predictive maintenance on the network layer itself
- Root-cause analysis of production interruptions
- Condition monitoring across multiple plants
Network Infrastructure Tools That Report Into Zabbix
PROFINET-INspektor® NT
Permanent, always-on monitoring for PROFINET networks. Measures per-device communication health, network load, and jitter continuously and reports it straight into Zabbix.
EtherNet/IP INspektor® NT
Continuous network health monitoring for EtherNet/IP environments, bringing the same permanent diagnostics to facilities running Allen-Bradley or other EtherNet/IP devices.
PROFIBUS-INspektor® NT
Permanent analyzer and condition monitoring for PROFIBUS networks. Tracks breakdowns, restarts, and error and repeat packets so legacy segments report into Zabbix alongside newer lines.
PNMA II Network TAP
Passive test access point that connects the PROFINET or EtherNet/IP INspektor® NT to the network without using a free switch port. Network communication stays intact even if its power supply fails.
Common Questions
What do I need to run the Zabbix integration?
Three things: an INspektor® NT monitoring your PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, or PROFIBUS network; a Windows PC that stays on and can reach the INspektor® over HTTP and your Zabbix server or proxy on port 10051; and Zabbix 7.0 LTS. The collector ships as a packaged executable, so Python does not need to be installed.
How do I set it up?
Import the InduSol template into Zabbix, create one host per INspektor® (or let the collector create them for you through the Zabbix API), enter your Zabbix server and INspektor® details in a single config file, run the built-in connection test, and register the collector as a Windows scheduled task. Step-by-step instructions are on GitHub.
Does the integration open a path into my OT network?
No. The collector only reads data from the INspektor® and only pushes values out to Zabbix. Nothing connects into the OT network from outside.
What happens if my Zabbix server goes offline?
The collector stores values locally with their original timestamps and sends them once Zabbix is reachable again, so your history has no gaps.
Does network monitoring require changes to my PLC program or control network configuration?
No. The INspektor® NT is a passive analyzer mounted in the panel. It listens to the network and never sits in the path of control traffic, so there are no controller logic changes, no added cyclic load, and no reconfiguration of existing devices.
On PROFINET and EtherNet/IP networks, the INspektor® NT connects through a passive network TAP (test access point) that copies traffic in both directions to the analyzer without using a free switch port. We recommend the PNMA II, which keeps network communication intact even if its power supply fails.
On PROFIBUS networks, an APKA II active programming cable runs from the piggyback port on the PLC's PROFIBUS connector to the PROFIBUS-INspektor® NT, so the network is monitored without interrupting any segment.
Does the integration cost extra?
No. The integration is free and open source under the MIT license, and Zabbix itself has no license fees. You only need the INspektor® NT hardware for each network you want to monitor.
Do I need Zabbix to use InduSol diagnostics?
No. The INspektor® NT has its own web interface and reports on its own. Pairing it with Zabbix matters when you want industrial network health in the same alerting and dashboards as the rest of your infrastructure.
Which networks can the INspektor® monitor?
PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and PROFIBUS, each with a dedicated INspektor® NT model. InduSol also offers INspektor® models for AS-Interface and EMC monitoring. Those work as standalone diagnostic tools and are not part of the Zabbix integration.
